Acknowledgment from Mercedes 

Renata Jungo Bruengger, a board member of Mercedes, expressed the company’s respect for employees’ decision to establish a trade union organization. 

She assured shareholders at the annual meeting that Mercedes would monitor the election process closely to ensure that every team member has the opportunity to cast a secret vote.

Unionization Vote at Alabama Plant 

The United Auto Workers (UAW), the largest automotive union in the United States, revealed plans for approximately 5,000 workers to vote on unionization at Mercedes’ plant in Vance, Alabama, scheduled for the following week. 

This vote represents a significant moment for the workers and the potential for union representation.

Allegations of Anti-Union Tactics 

Jeremy Kimbrell, a leader in the union drive at the factory, accused Mercedes of employing tactics to deter workers from unionizing, including hiring the services of anti-union consultancy RWP. 

Kimbrell’s claims were conveyed at the annual general meeting by a representative of Germany’s Association of Critical Shareholders (DKA), which advocates for small investors on various issues, including social concerns.

Mercedes’ Response 

Mercedes declined to comment on whether it had engaged the services of the consultancy mentioned. 

The CEO of RWP, as described on LinkedIn, specializes in assisting companies in maintaining a union-free environment. However, Mercedes’ decision not to provide further details on this matter leaves questions regarding its stance on unionization tactics.
