Xiaomi’s CEO announced plans for the company’s first electric vehicle (EV), the SU7 (Speed Ultra 7), to blend aesthetics, performance, and affordability.

With a target price below 500,000 yuan ($69,424), Xiaomi aims to make its EV the “best looking, easiest to drive, and smartest car” in its segment.

Anticipation and Official Launch:

The company is set to reveal the official price range and commence orders for the SU7 on Thursday evening, following months of anticipation since its unveiling in December.

Xiaomi aims to position itself among the world’s top five automakers, leveraging its technological prowess to compete with established players like Tesla and Porsche in the EV market.

Unique Features and Display:

Xiaomi’s SU7 has generated significant interest, with 76 Xiaomi stores across 29 Chinese cities showcasing the vehicle.

Prospective customers and car enthusiasts have been drawn to its innovative design features, including aerodynamic curves designed to reduce drag.

Xiaomi’s “Xiaomi Car” app has also been made available in Chinese app stores, further enhancing the vehicle’s accessibility.

Consumer Expectations and Market Perception:

Consumers like Jim Yan appreciate Xiaomi’s reputation for providing value in its products, including smartphones and home electronics. However, some remain cautious about the pricing strategy for Xiaomi’s debut vehicle, considering it an untested venture in the automotive market.

The SU7 will be available in two versions, offering impressive driving ranges of up to 668km (415 miles) and 800km on a single charge. These specifications position Xiaomi’s EV competitively against established models like Tesla’s Model S.

Diversification Strategy and Manufacturing:

Xiaomi’s foray into EVs is part of its strategy to diversify its business amid slowing smartphone demand. The company has pledged significant investments in the automotive sector.

It has partnered with state-owned automaker BAIC Group to manufacture its vehicles in a Beijing factory with an annual capacity of 200,000 units.
