The historic Rosebank distillery, once dubbed “The King of the Lowlands,” re-started processes in 2023 after a 30-year break.
Rosebank Distillery, located in Falkirk in the Lowlands of Scotland, has a rich history dating back to 1798. Initially operated by the Stark brothers, it was one of the pioneering distilleries in the Falkirk region.
In 1840, James Rankine officially established Rosebank Distillery on the banks of the Forth & Clyde Canal, utilizing the waterway for the transportation of goods.
Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, Rosebank earned a reputation for its high-quality Lowland single malt whiskies, particularly known for its rare triple distillation process.
Despite its acclaim, Rosebank ceased production and was mothballed in 1993 due to a downturn in the Scotch whisky market and industry consolidation. For 24 years, the distillery lay dormant until Ian Macleod Distillers purchased it in 2017.
