Apple’s upcoming artificial intelligence (AI) features will be delayed. According to a report by Bloomberg News on Sunday, they will not be included in the initial launch of the new iPhone and iPad software updates.
The report, citing sources familiar with the matter, states that Apple plans to begin rolling out the new AI features, branded as Apple Intelligence, as part of software updates by October. These features will arrive a few weeks after the initial releases of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, which are scheduled for September.
For the first time, Apple Intelligence will be available to software developers for early testing. This testing phase is expected to start as soon as this week with the release of iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 betas.
Apple did not instantly respond to requests for comments outside regular business hours.
In June, Apple emphasized its commitment to AI, unveiling new features and software enhancements for its iPhone and other devices. This push is aimed at addressing declining sales and enhancing the user experience.
Apple Intelligence, which utilizes AI to generate text, images, and other content on demand, will be available on the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPads and Macs equipped with the M1 chip and later versions. The new features also include iPhone Mirroring on macOS Sequoia, allowing users to view and interact with their iPhone screens on Mac computers.
The delay in launching some of the AI features is partly due to new European Union regulations. In late June, Apple postponed the introduction of three new AI features to ensure compliance with these rules, which require the company to allow rival products and services to function with its devices.
