Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced outages late on Tuesday, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.com.
At the peak of the disruption, Downdetector recorded over 36,500 US issues reports. Additionally, there were over 3,300 outage reports in Canada and 1,600 in the UK.
The outage impacted users across multiple regions, including India, where many reported difficulties loading new posts or refreshing their feeds. The majority of the issues appeared to originate from the app itself. The exact cause of the outage is still unknown.
This incident follows a series of technical glitches and outages that have plagued the platform since Elon Musk’s $44 billion acquisition. The social media platform has been prone to tech issues, particularly after Musk publicly criticized Twitter’s code, describing it as “brittle.”
Notably, a Spaces conversation between Musk and former US president Donald Trump was recently interrupted by an outage, which Musk attributed to a “massive” cyber-attack.
Fortunately, the outage was brief, lasting less than an hour. Despite the temporary disruption, it reminded users of the platform’s ongoing technical challenges since the ownership change.
