Uber to Launch Self-Driving Cars with Cruise Partnership

Uber Technologies Inc. plans to integrate self-driving cars from Cruise LLC into its ride-hailing platform starting next year.

The companies announced in a joint statement that this multiyear partnership will allow Uber riders to choose a Cruise autonomous vehicle when requesting a qualifying ride.

Cruise’s Road to Recovery:

Cruise, a subsidiary of General Motors Co., aims to regain momentum after a setback in October when it was forced to ground its fleet.

The decision came after one of Cruise’s vehicles was invoCruise’sa serious collision with a pedestrian, leading to California regulators suspending its driverless license.

The pedestrian was hospitalized for months, and the incident raised concerns about the company’s transparency regarding its situation.

Future Plans and Market Launch:

According to sources cited by Bloomberg, Cruise is planning to resume fully autonomous rides later this year, with potential fare-based services launching by early 2025.

Uber’s partnership with CrUber’sill initially roll out in a single US market early next year, though the specific location has not yet been disclosed.
